Tour de Toona Visits Berlin

On Wednesday, July 25, 2007, the International Tour de Toona bicycle race made a brief visit to the area.  Between 14:00 and 15:00 hrs two packs of riders passed through the area during a 95.9 mile long course.  The course began at the Boscov's Department Store in Richland Township (Cambria County) and ends at the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona (Blair County).  The racers entered the District 500 service area via Route 160, coming southbound from Central City, and then made the turn onto Route 31 to head east towards Bedford County.  Berlin Ambulance was contacted to provide traffic control along Route 31 to help protect the racers.  Medic 501 and crew handled the public service detail which lasted approximately 30 minutes.  The Pennsylvania State Police and AMED EMS assisted in escorting the racers throughout the course.
